Attacks against Christians are frequent in Pakistan.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack April 3 through its Amaq News Agency.

Police said the casings of 9 mm bullets were recovered from the crime scene. "The bodies are being sent back to Lahore for burial".

According to Pakistan's Express Tribune, roughly 2 percent of Pakistan's population is Christian.

In December, a suicide bomber attacked a Methodist church packed with worshipers in the same city, leaving seven people dead and more than 20 others injured.

Provincial police official Moazzam Jah Ansari told Reuters that the incident "appears to be a targeted attack".

"Much of the Christian persecution in Pakistan comes from radical Islamic groups that flourish and expand under the favor of political parties, the army, and the government", said Open Doors, which has listed Pakistan in the top ten of worst places in the world to be Christian. "Now is the time we all should stand up against these terrorists and killers".

Pervez Maseeh's widow, Shama Parveen, told SAMAA that her brothers Imran and Tariq had come to Quetta after 12 years from Punjab to celebrate Easter with the family.

The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for that attack in a statement, but provided no proof of its involvement. Violence has dropped in recent years as a series of military operations succeeded in displacing the TTP and allied groups from their strongholds in northwestern Pakistan, but sporadic, large-casualty attacks continue.

In all, at least 242 people were killed in attacks in Balochistan province in 2017, according to the South Asia Terrorism Portal research organisation.

In March 2016, the Taliban targeted Christians celebrating Easter in a park in Lahore killing 71 people.
