Mohammed leading West Indies for 3 T20s in Pakistan

  • Mohammed will be leading in Brathwaite's absence

Windies will be without Carlos Brathwaite, their regular Twenty20 captain who opted out of the tour over security fears, while openers Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis, allrounders Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard, and spinner Sunil Narine were not available for selection due to their commitments to the Indian Premier League.

Eleven members of the West Indies squad arrived in Karachi on Saturday night to play a three-match T20 series against Pakistan.

Jason Mohammed will be the captain of the squad, which includes Samuel Badree, Rayad Emrit, Andre Fletcher, Andre McCarthy, Keemo Paul, Veerasammy Permaul, Rovman Powell, Denesh Ramdin, Marlon Samuels, Odean Smith, Chadwick Walton, Kesrick Williams.

Refusing to accept the visiting team as "weak", Sethi, according to the Dawn, said, "It is not fair to say that big West Indies players are not coming".

Authorities said the intense security measures would mirror those put in place for the recent Pakistan Super League final, also staged in Karachi.

Karachi, after successfully hosting the PSL final on March 25, is set to welcome back global cricket when Pakistan take on the Windies at the National Stadium in T20Is on April 1, 2 and 3. "We are really happy that we will be playing an global match at our home ground after so many years and are confident to perform well". There were some moments in PSL where I went for runs, but that is a part of the game. West Indies have not travelled with a media officer. "No matter what the conditions are, if a bowlers gets to bowl he has to perform and if a batsman gets the chance, then he should score runs for the team".

Lahore has been favoured for the few worldwide forays into Pakistan since 2009 hosting Zimbabwe in 2015 before the visit of a World XI and global players in the Pakistan Super League final in 2017.

With less than 72 hours to the first match to be played, there was increasing concern over the fate of the tour, but the announcement of the 13-man squad will come as a relief to the Pakistan Cricket Board, who had already begun to sell tickets for the three games to be played at the National Stadium Karachi.

World champions West Indies will play all three T20 Internationals at the National Stadium in Karachi on April 1, 2 and 3 and global media reports said ICC general manager Geoff Allardice would be attending the series. "We have made it very clear to the players and support staff that had personal reservations about this tour that we fully understand and respect their position", he added.
