Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that Turkey's intelligence chief would meet an Iraqi official to discuss an Iraqi military operation in Sinjar, a region of Iraq bordering on Turkey, where Ankara says Kurdish militants have established a base. "The EU and Turkey are trying to maintain the relation between them although it is quite weakened", he commented.

The EU has condemned what it considers Turkey's illegal actions against Cyprus.

Turkey will maintain its perspective for full membership of the European Union, however, the efforts should continue in a way that "suits the interests of both sides", Yildirim was quoted by Hurriyet Daily News as saying.

The list of demands was issued after it was revealed Turkey is considering an "Army of Islam" to attack Israel.

"EU membership continues to be our strategic target", Erdogan said. It is a Kurdish-controlled enclave, cut off from a larger expanse of Kurdish territory in the northeast of Syria. He hoped that progress would be made in Turkey's accession process, and that the visa liberalization agreement would soon be finalized.

Mr Erdogan was speaking before departing for the Bulgarian Black Sea resort of Varna to attend a likely arduous Turkey-EU summit meeting. "In this sense, Turkey is not contemplating on taking any decision against Russia", Bekir Bozdag said after a cabinet meeting in the capital Ankara.

Topic expected to be high on the agenda include the crackdown in Turkey after July 2016's failed coup, Ankara's demands for visa liberalisation and the near-endless saga of the country's own European Union membership bid.

He added that Turkey is sufficiently strong to cancel the state of emergency since the failed military coup in July 2016.

And Donald Tusk later admitted today's summit in Bulgaria achieved "no solutions or compromises on points of concern". "We are dedicated to continue our dialogue in hard circumstances".
