  • 2019 Nigeria has no better alternative than Buhari says APC guber aspirant

Mr. Rahman said this in reactions to eyebrows being raised over the former governor's absence from the meeting held at Aso Rock presidential villa, which was attended, by President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo among others.

It would be recalled that the APC NEC at its meeting of February 26, extended the tenure of the party's National Working Committee (NEC) and other executive members across all levels by one year starting from June.

He is the Asiwaju of Lagos State and the Jagaban of "Borgu" Kingdom in Niger State, as well as national leader of All Progressives Congress (APC).

"Tactically, it is an agenda setting meeting and we have had that meeting but the main meeting will take place tomorrow, " Dogara said.

"I believe that it will be the responsibility of NEC to decide and after a decision is taken, some of our faithful members will address the press".

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday said the proposed tenure extension for the current members of the All Progressives Congress' national executive committee contravenes the party's constitution.

APC insisted that the suit raised serious constitutional issues, saying "for the interest of fair hearing, we are still within time to file our processes".

According to him, the tenure extension was at variance with the party's constitution as well as the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

"While the repositioned PDP maintain its unpretentious stance towards Nigerians, we charge the Minister of Information to direct his demand to the Presidency and the APC as Nigerians are expecting them to refund the stolen funds they used to scheme themselves into office in 2015", the statement read in part.

Also, The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, described the meeting as "a good meeting", adding that members deliberated on a number of issues to do with the party's constitution.

The various opinions were canvassed and then both yesterday at the national caucus meeting and here, again it was agreed that a technical committee between the national assembly, the executive and the party should be set up to look at the proposals point by point as quickly as possible to enable the president to transmit to the national assembly for action.

"We discussed so many things - one of them is the proposed amendment of the constitution".

In a statement signed Wednesday in Abuja by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, attested to Tinubu's efforts towards deepening democracy and ensure good governance in Nigeria.
