  • Gas prices jump at the start of spring

Gasoline prices in Chattanooga rose by an average 7.5 cents per gallon last week, rising to the highest level so far this year.

The national average gas price for this month is $2.61.

Roanoke- $2.36/g, up 3.1 cents per gallon from last week's $2.33/g.

But local prices are 23 cents higher than a year ago and remain at their highest March levels in four years.

AAA attributes the surge in price to strong demand for gas, rising crude oil prices and declining gasoline inventories.

Georgia motorists are finding some of the most expensive gas prices in five months, according to the auto club AAA.

Because of record travel numbers across the USA, especially on the west coast, AAA officials are predicting statewide average gas prices to rise between $3.60 and $3.80 by Memorial Day, May 28. Utah saw a 14-cent price increase last week, while OR and Washington prices each jumped by 9 cents. Pump prices have steadily climbed for the past 11 days, rising a total of 11 cents. "As March wraps up, gas prices are going out like a small lion, but there may be a larger lion looming in the weeks ahead".

AAA's March 26 survey of prices in MA finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.50 per gallon. Friday's settlement of $65.88 was the highest daily figure since January 26. Lima's gas prices have gone up 4.8 cents since last week.

For this spring, AAA expects prices to plateau around $2.80 to $2.90 per gallon.
