The former boss of convicted sexual abuser Larry Nassar was arrested Monday in MI.

Strampel, 70, is being held at Ingham County Jail in Mason, Michigan, and is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The Detroit Free Press first reported Strampel's arrest Monday night. A spokeswoman for the Attorney General's office did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

"Our clients are encouraged by the Attorney General's action today", attorney John Manly said in a statement.

The arrest comes as the attorney general called a press conference for noon Tuesday. "It demonstrates that he is serious about investigating the systemic misconduct at M.S.U. that led to the largest child sex abuse scandal in history, and holding the responsible parties accountable".

A Michigan State spokeswoman said the university would continue cooperating with any investigations. Here is what those comments were, according to The Wall Street Journal. "I do not think this is a new issue, instead I think it is something that the College has chosen to ignore, for what reason I dare not imagine and can not fathom".

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan State University official who oversaw Larry Nassar was arrested Monday amid an investigation into the handling of complaints against the former sport doctor, who is in prison for sexually assaulting patients under the guise of treatment.

A jail website listed the former dean of Michigan State's College of Osteopathic Medicine as an inmate there but gave no other information. He began steps last month to revoke his tenure and dismiss the physician-educator.

He had already received a sentence up to 175 years in a neighboring MI county, and was sentenced to a 60-year federal term for child pornography convictions.

Strampel has been a focus of the investigation since it began in January, days after Nassar was sentenced to serve 40 to 175 years for seven sex crimes in MI.

Strampel stepped down as dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State for medical reasons in December 2016. Nassar had, however, been cleared by a flawed investigation then.

Nassar is now serving his 60-year federal prison sentenced in United States Penitentiary Tucson in Tucson, Arizona, which is a maximum-security federal prison that offers a sex offender program for sex offenders such as Nassar. The one given to Thomashow had a shorter conclusion section than the one given to Nassar, Strampel and the university. Nassar told police and Strampel that this was part of his cutting-edge medical procedure, and he was cleared of wrongdoing. The MSU Police Department led the investigations.

Among the women who have accused Nassar of sexual assault are Olympic gold medalists Aly Raisman, Simone Biles, McKayla Maroney and Gabby Douglas.

When he returned to the clinic in 2014, Nassar and Strampel agreed to a new set of guidelines to use when he was treating patients in sensitive areas. In letting Nassar resume seeing patients, he also said any skin-to-skin contact should be minimal and needed to be explained in detail.

Police did not reveal why Strampel was taken into custody. More than a dozen women and girls say they were abused during that time.

Before he sat down with reporters, Nassar exchanged emails with his boss.

An attorney representing more than 150 Nassar survivors praised the move. Less than a month before Nassar was sacked, Rachael Denhollander filed a police report alleging that the former doctor abused her.

Strampel would be the first person charged in connection with the Nassar scandal outside of the trainer himself.

Nassar alerted Strampel that reporters wanted to speak with him about the story.

"Good luck", Strampel replied. Denhollander asked during an impact statement she delivered in court last month.

A spokesman for the State Police told the Free Press all questions should be directed to Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette's Office.
