A presentation ceremony of corneas also took place, it said, adding that the corneas were presented by Sirisena to Abbasi for treatment of visually impaired persons in Pakistan.

The President said the global scenario has changed manifold and now countries could not be coerced to toe line of one particular country. The Pakistani nation has faced these challenges with unity and resilience.

Pakistan on Friday said it wanted to resolve the ongoing row with India over the alleged harassment of each other's diplomats as soon as possible.

During his address at the event, Mahmood said, "Pakistan desired peaceful and good-neighbourly relations with India on the basis of sovereign equality and mutual respect".

"Pakistan had always played a historic role in the peaceful settlement of Afghan issue and for the stability of the Afghanistan government". This year, it is the first time that a contingent from the UAE military also paraded along with Pakistan armed forces.

The impressive ceremony kicked off with the fly past of fighter jets of Pakistan Air Force led by Air Chief Mujahid Anwar Khan presenting salute to the chief guest President Mamnoon Hussain.

The other who witnessed the event include Pakistan's Defence Minister Khurrum Dastagir, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Navy Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi and Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee Zubair Mehmood Hayat. It was suspended due to threat of militancy.

The day dawned with 31- and 21-gun salutes in the federal and provincial capitals, respectively, while the national flag was hoisted atop government buildings and departments.

Besides district police, the special branch, Elite Force, and the Dolphin Force personnel would also perform their security duties on the Pakistan Day.
