Your 'hidden' iPhone notifications can be outed by blabbermouth Siri

  • Siri privacy bug lets it read out most hidden message content on a locked iPhone

Until Apple solves this issue, what you can do is to turn off the lock screen notifications for apps of which you don't want Siri to read out loud. Originally spotted by Mac Magazine, all someone has to do is ask Siri to read a notification out loud whereupon Siri will read it aloud.

In order to disable Siri on the lock screen, head to Settings Siri & Search Allow Siri When Locked.

Have you endured any embarrassing moments courtesy of Apple's personal assistant?

Fortunately, any messages or notifications sent to Apple's own Messages app, iMessage, are still protected. We tried again and again to get Siri to read texts, but it demanded we unlock our iPhones first. Unselect this toggle and Siri won't be able to read out messages when the phone is locked.

The only messaging app that isn't affected by the bug appears to be Apple's own Messages. In a statement issued to Apple Insider, Apple already confirmed that it is working on the fix. The company said, "We are aware of the issue and it will be addressed in an upcoming software update".

The site verified that the bug is in both iOS 11.2.6 and the beta of iOS 11.3. Things started looking brighter after the iOS 11.1.3 update but things have tanked once again. The iOS 11 has been riddled with so many bugs and half-baked functionality that some of the users preferred to stick to the previous version. Aside from the fix though, iOS 11.3 is also anticipated by many users because it will come with new features like health records, new animoji, and an in-depth battery monitoring program.

Ironically, the Apple Messages app seems to be somewhat immune from the bug because you need to say "Ok Siri read my messages".
