Mrs. Pruitt said, "World TB Day presents an opportunity for people to learn more about the disease". Today, President and PM have also come out to address the issue of Tuberculosis in India., urging it to stop by 2050.

The 2018 theme for World Tuberculosis Day is "Wanted: Leaders for a TB-Free World".

In 2016 an estimated 10.4 million people fell ill with TB, with 1.7 million deaths, including 400,000 million deaths among people co-infected with HIV. The survey reported high treatment failure and death rates of multi-drug resistant TB patients than the global level. The day is celebrated since 1822 when Dr Robert Koch announced her discovery of the bacterium that causes TB, which opened the doors towards curing and diagnosing the disease. They include unequal access to services, with the most marginalized people still out of reach, the need to access education, housing and basic services to prevent, diagnose and treat TB and HIV through local health-care services and community health-care workers, the need to strengthen health systems and the urgent need to mobilize resources in programming, research and development.

While the Center for Nutrition Studies, Yenepoya University provided the content for the app, it was developed with technical support from McGill International TB Centre, Montreal, reports The Hindu Business Line. TB patients and treatment providers face an array of challenges, from diagnosis to treatment.

And while we mention it less, the treatment for uncomplicated, drug-sensitive TB (DS-TB) is still hard to implement, at six months and with four different drugs involved.

Reading Borough Council's lead member for health, Graeme Hoskin, said: "Much excellent work is being done locally to raise awareness of this debilitating disease, and to eradicate it with early diagnosis and treatment".

Tobacco increases the risk of getting TB. According to Mayo Clinic, it is mainly caused by a bacteria that can spread between people through microscopic droplets released into the air. Global progress depends on advances in TB prevention and care in these countries. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) categorically states that tuberculosis can not be spread through sharing utensils or containers, sharing cigarettes with others and saliva shared through kissing.

Though the number of new cases has been falling for some years, multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) remains a public health crisis and a health security threat. People will usually be coughing up blood containing sputum; they'll have a high fever, night sweats and weight loss.

TB has been leading infectious killer in India.

Of late, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched a TB-free India campaign.

Beyond drug-resistance, what are the prospects for TB treatment in general?

World Health Organization (WHO) Medical Officer Mya Sapol called for collaborative efforts between the government and non-governmental sectors in controlling TB.
