Bomb hoaxes at North Yorkshire schools

  • Police have declared an email bomb threat sent to hundreds of schools to be a hoax

They were told that a bomb was placed in the premises of the schools and that if cash is not paid then the bomb will be detonated.

Over 400 schools in England were today targeted with bomb hoax emails that claimed a device would be detonated on the grounds unless online payments were made to an address.

Brookfield Primary School in Highgate was evacuated on Friday after receiving a malicious email.

"The email is a national hoax and an investigation into where it originated from will take place".

Assistant Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine, said: "We have been working closely with schools this morning and have advised them to make contact with parents".

Schools in London, Humberside, Northumbria, the West Midlands and Greater Manchester, among others, all received emails. Humberside Police have also dealt with 19 reports in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire.

The email appeared to come from gaming server VeltPvP, but the company said the account had been "spoofed" and the message had not come from them.

Despite the malicious emails, officers do not believe there was any "viable threat". We have sent in a student with a bomb.

The emails are believed to originate from the USA, written mostly in English but also including some Arabic sentences.

Police said they were called to the store about 3:47 p.m. Saturday after someone reported a bomb in the parking lot.

But Cambridgeshire Police said no schools in the county had been evacuated and all campuses had been made aware that the communication was a hoax and that there was nothing to be concerned about. We will blow up the device. "Our site has all the information needed (veltpvp.com)", it said. "ANY attempt at defusing it your self will cause it to explode". "We've been being harassed by a group of cybercriminals [who] are trying to harass us in anyway possible".

"We take hoaxes extremely seriously".
