Arsenal forward, Welbeck was awarded a controversial penalty that led to the Gunners' first goal.

Arsenal's English striker Danny Welbeck (R) celebrates with teammates scoring the team's third goal during the UEFA Europa League round of 16 second-leg football match between Arsenal and AC Milan at the Emirates Stadium in London on March 15, 2018.

"It's a definite dive", former Arsenal defender Martin Keown told BT Sport, while ex-Tottenham star Jermaine Jenas said: "Welbeck doesn't feel any contact apart from his own feet connecting with themselves and he goes over".

Granit Xhaka then netted in the 71st minute before Welbeck made the game safe four minutes from time.

A shock defeat to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round, followed by a League Cup final defeat to Man City ruled them out of both domestic cups whilst they mathematically can not win the Premier League this season. I will watch it again and give you my honest feeling. I will give him my honest feeling about it as well don't worry'.

"We saw how good they are", he said.

Arsene Wenger has promised to give Danny Welbeck a piece of his mind if he judges that he dived to win Arsenal's crucial penalty, despite claiming not to have seen the incident.

"We were in protective mode, subconsciously, and played a little bit with the handbrake from the start".

Welbeck converted the penalty himself to restore the two-goal lead secured in the first leg in Milan. The Italian players were not happy.

Victory sees Arsenal reach a European quarter-final for the first time since 2010 and the Gunners will learn their fate in Friday's draw, which begins at 12pm GMT.

"We have won the last three games and we need to keep going".

Their latest success followed improved performances in the first leg against Milan and Sunday's 3-0 victory over Watford that between them have eased the pressure growing on Wenger and helped Arsenal move on from what he described as a "nightmare week".

"It's much better. We needed that to recover our form from a bad week", Wenger added. We have to wait and see who we get.

"I hope so. When we looked at the draw before, AC Milan was probably not one of the teams we fancied but we showed we can play against the top teams in Europe". "We finished the game more compact and more solid".
