To get rid of her hair fibers, they burned her skull, dousing it in gasoline "in a fire pit in a cave", he claimed.

His name didn't surface in media reports for months - until this week, when he found himself at the center of a different tragedy.

The Tampa Bay Times reported that 32-year-old John Christopher Ludwick tried to kidnap a woman Wednesday as she exited her driveway in North Port.

A Florida man who claimed to be involved in the 2005 disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba has been stabbed to death while trying to kidnap a young woman, local police say.

He ran away and was found wounded nearby.

Ludwick died at a hospital. She will not be charged.

Holloway was on a high school graduation trip to Aruba in 2005 when she disappeared, last seen in a vehicle with three men, including Joran Van der Sloot.

In a Facebook post, the North Port Police Department says it is "aware of Mr. Ludwick's history and comments surrounding the disappearance of Natalee Ann Holloway in Aruba during May of 2005".

Van der Sloot is now serving a 28-year prison sentence in Peru for killing student Stephany Flores on the fifth anniversary of Holloway's disappearance in 2010.

Holloway's disappearance remains unsolved, but a strong lead appeared to surface previous year.

He has ties to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Ludwick and his allegations were the center of the TV program about Holloway's disappearance.

Ludwick is a friend of Van der Sloot.

"Well, originally, (van der Sloot) had discussed getting it cremated, but at that time it wasn't legal, but apparently some places would do it for pets", Ludwick told Ward, avoiding eye contact with the private investigator.

"The idea was to crush everything to the point where it wasn't recognizable as her bones or skull or anything like that", Ludwick said in a video that aired on Oxygen. 'The correct authorities who are working that case have been notified'. Holloway's mother, Beth Holloway, sued the network and the production company that was responsible for the 2017 program.

Holloway's remains were never found.
