  • Araria Bypoll

In Araria BJP candidate has so far bagged 1,13,169 votes and is leading Sarfaraz Alam of RJD, who has got 1,04,190 votes, by 8,979 votes.

A day after Lalu Yadav's RJD retained the Araria constituency in Bihar bypolls against an aggressive campaign by the BJP, Union Minister Giriraj Singh has provoked a huge controversy by commenting that the district will become a "hub of terror".

RJD legislature party leader Rabri Devi said, "There is terrorism in BJP, all the terrorists of the country sit at BJP office".

"Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has congratulated Rinky Rani Pandey for her victory in Bhabhua, Krishna Mohan Yadav alias Suday Yadav for his win in Jehanabad and Sarfaraz Alam for his triumph in Araria", an official release said. After the by-election for three seats in Bihar, the preparations to elect candidates for the vacant seat has been completed in Araria. The bypoll in Araria was seen as a test for the ruling JD (U)-BJP combine as well as the Opposition RJD-Congress alliance ahead of the big battle in the General Elections due next year.

Singh also said RJD had started a "new political culture" to fulfill its ambitions. (It is moving) to a hardline ideology, which is not just risky for Bihar, but for the whole country.

In Jehanabad, RJD's victor Suday Yadav is son of Mundrika Singh Yadav, former state minister and a close associate of Lalu Prasad, whose death necessitated the byelection. These results have the potential of triggering another round of churn in Bihar's politics.

Rinki is the widowed wife of Anand Pandey, the former elected MLA of the constituency. "How can that be the hub of ISIS", questioned former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.

Commenting on emerging trends in by-elections happening in Bihar, CPI state working committee member Irfan Ahmad Faatmi said these results will impact the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. "Massive leads in just two assembly segments tilted the result in favour of the RJD candidate", Nand Kishore told reporters.
