Then he tragically tore up his knee during 2016 training camp and hasn't started a game for the past two years. Clearly, the University of Louisville product was not the only target for the Jets as they added more pieces to their roster.

The New York Jets are set to make a splash on the first day of free agency after agreeing deals with five players on Tuesday.

On Tuesday afternoon the New York Jets announced their acquisition of Teddy Bridgewater.

He is heading to the Vikings, while the Jets are bringing in ex-Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and re-signing their own starter from a year ago, Josh McCown.

Bridgewater, who was drafted in the first round (32nd overall) by the Vikings in 2014, showed promise in his first two seasons but suffered a serious leg injury that sidelined him for all of 2016 and most of 2017.

It's common knowledge the Jets were going hard after former Washington Redskins starter Kirk Cousins.

Cousins threw for 4,093 yards and 27 touchdowns last season with the Redskins.

NY also could consider bringing back Josh McCown and/or drafting a quarterback. NFL Network insider Ian Rapaport is reporting that the deal is worth approximately $28 million per year.

Former undrafted free agent Crowell is expected to sign a three-year deal with the Jets. He was a Pro Bowl selection after his second season and was largely considered a rising star at his position before the injury.

The 25-year-old also had 96 receptions for 770 yards and one score during his National Football League career. Running back Matt Forte also recently announced his retirement.

The Jets also appeared poised to make a big splash on defense, with multiple reports saying Tuesday night that NY was close to signing both former Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson and former Titans linebacker Avery Williamson.

Bridgewater is a free agent with Minnesota having declined his fifth-year contract option.
