Shopian: Army kill 3 civilians, dub them as OGWs

A militant from Shopian was killed and his three "accomplices" were later "found to be dead", after a heavy exchange of gunfire took place at the Pahnoo army camp in Shopian, the PRO Defence Col Rajesh Kalia said on Sunday evening.

"Also the three over ground workers/accomplices in the auto who were accompanying the terrorist were found to be dead".

"Three Over-Ground Workers (OGWs) or accomplices in the auto who were accompanying the terrorist were also found to be dead".

Following the incident, clashes between surging crowds and security forces erupted in a few Shopian areas, a report said.

"In the brief encounter, a militant identified as Shahid Ahmad Dar S/o Mushtaq Ahmad Dar R/o Jamnagri, Shopian was killed". While the security forces said the three others killed were associates of the terrorist, locals have alleged they were civilians killed in army firing.

The Army men were fired upon and they retaliated, in which a terrorist was killed, the official said.

All the three were locals and residents of Trenz, Pinjoora and Imam Sahib areas of Shopian. The identities of the three persons are being ascertained. The area was cordoned off and search operations launched, a police official told PTI.

Police reached the spot and was carrying out legal formalities, he said.
