  • Classes at Harvard Westlake School were canceled Friday Feb. 23 2018 due to an indirect threat

Former NFL player Jonathan Martin was detained by authorities in Southern California on Friday after he apparently posted a threat directed at his former Harvard-Westlake high school as well as the Miami Dolphins.

Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson Tony Im told Perez that a person believed to be Martin was still in detainment as of Friday night: "The individual believed to be responsible for the social media post is being detained, however he is not in police custody". School officials said the image had been attributed to a former student, but did not identify the person.

That student was identified as Martin by 12up.com's Nick Brown.

Martin was the subject of a much-publicized bullying incident during his second and final season with Miami in 2013.

Martin also tagged former fellow National Football League players, including Richie Incognito-who was accused of bullying Martin when they were teammates in Miami-as well as Mike Pouncey. The school was shut down and evacuated in the wake of the threat. "So, out of an abundance of caution, we made the decision to close school today". We are working closely with law enforcement and will share more information when we are able.

The Instagram post includes an image of a shotgun and shells, the name of the California school where Martin went, and the names of several former teammates. After being waived by San Francisco in March of 2015, Martin was claimed by the Carolina Panthers.

The former lineman hasn't played since 2015.

The NFL published a 144-page report from attorney Ted Wells, which included a series of distressing text messages from Martin to his parents alleging bullying throughout middle and high school, at Stanford and in Miami. The post mentioned that suicide and revenge were the only options for a victim of bullying, the official said.

"I'll get nothing from it", Martin said.

Following his retirement from football, Martin wrote on Facebook that he attempted suicide on multiple occasions.

There are also other reports stating Martin has been hospitalised. In recent years, Martin has spoken to schoolchildren about his experiences with bullying and depression on behalf of Beyond Differences.
