It has been speculated the vehicle will send 530kW and 770Nm to the rear wheels via a 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8, and rumours suggest the Pista'sengine is a development of that found in the Ferrari Challenge race auto. To match its rival from Britain, the Pista has been subjected to Ferrari's biggest jump yet between standard coupe and special model. There is now a McLaren-matching 720hp - a real 710bhp - on offer at a heady 8,000rpm, with torque gains across the range as well, peaking at 568 lb ft at 3000rpm. But according to Ferrari, the 488 Pista still represents a "significant step forward". It's lighter than the original road car's V8 too, with titanium connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft direct from the race cars.
To help it stick to the track, Ferrari's engineers made some aerodynamic changes to increase the downforce by 20 percent. The 488 Pista has a dry weight of 2,821 pounds, which is roughly a 200-pound savings over the 488 GTB (thanks in part to carbon fiber body panels).
No official performance figures have been released yet but, given the weight reduction and power increase versus the standard 488, we expect the 488 Pista to manage 0-62mph in less than three seconds. Combined with the diet, Ferrari claims the Pista can now do 0-100km/h in just 2.85 seconds and 0-200km/h in only 7.6 seconds.
With the Pista name's literal translation, it's pretty clear Ferrari is aiming this auto directly at track enthusiasts, and probably wants to show the guys in Woking a thing or two in the process. Carbon fibre trim also features on the dash and are met with plenty of Alcantara and a unique 488 Pista badge near the passenger side vent. Top speed is in excess of 211 miles per hour, Ferrari claims.
Compared to the 488 GTB which it's based on, the Pista saves 90kg for a kerb weight of less than 1.3-tonnes, or to be prices, 1,280kg. Key components including a rear blown spoiler, F1-inspired S-duct, modified front air intakes, and a bold rear diffuser. Put simply, this new component uses software to adjust the braking pressure at each caliper individually at the limit in order to make the vehicle more predictable under corner braking.
