NCAA denies appeal, Louisville must vacate 2013 basketball title

The University of Louisville's men's basketball program will have to vacate its 2013 national title, making it the first Division-1 men's basketball program to be stripped of its national title in modern NCAA history. Former director of basketball operations Andre McGee was found to have arranged "striptease dances and sex acts for prospects, student-athletes and others, and did not cooperate with the investigation".

"I can not say this strongly enough: We believe the NCAA is simply wrong", Louisville interim president Greg Postel said in a comment.

It's unclear whether the NCAA has ruled to remove Pitino's tattoo as part of the decision, but something tells me he might be springing for a tattoo removal kit in the near future.

Though some of us have joked about this, one of the NCAA's arguments for not penalizing UNC was that the classes were available to all students, bogus though they were.

Because of recruiting violations that occurred earlier this decade, Louisville must vacate the national championship it won in 2013 when Keatts was an assistant for the Cardinals, the NCAA ruled.

The NCAA announced the decision on the appeal on Tuesday.

U of L officials said they were surprised and disappointed at the order to vacate records and return NCAA Tournament revenues, and those were the penalties U of L fought.

If the NCAA is serious about ending corruption in college basketball, they need to do more than "reverse" the effects of past violations with the removal of wins and championships. Now if some other people are going to come and say, 'Hey, you won it all, you're the champion, ' we'll take it. "Instead, it was ignored".

In a statement addressed to the "UofL Family" and posted on Louisville's website, the university's interim president, Greg Postel, strongly disagreed with the appeals panel's decision. It also must forfeit about $600,000 in tournament payouts from those seasons. Tyra said the school has not formally discussed any plans for further litigation against the NCAA, and while he maintained that Tuesday's ruling would help bring closure for the program's fan base, he didn't definitively rule out further action in the courtroom.

Pitino and athletic director Tom Jurich were fired in October after the FBI informed Louisville of a federal investigation alleging the university ordered a payment of $100,000 to five-star recruit Brian Bowen's father.

"We certainly really represented our university and college basketball the right way that year". As young as they were, the Wolverines had IN beaten for a share of the title before missed free throws down the stretch cost them IN a devastating loss. "Lottery picks won't be eligible to play and nearly half of the 16 teams the NCAA showed on its initial NCAA tournament show this weekend should worry about their appearance being vacated". It can not change the feeling many of us shared as we experienced the victories those teams earned.

"Brighter days are ahead", Tomlinson said.
