SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) - Two junior-level officers of the Indian army and two militants were killed while nine others, including women and children, wounded Saturday in an ongoing gunfight in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir.

After the killing of the second terrorist, the Army confirmed that the terrorists were from Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

"Due to the presence of women and children in the housing colony, the operation is being progressed cautiously to minimise the casualties", the spokesperson said and added the Army has so far killed two heavily armed terrorists and recovered two-AK 56 assault rifles, large amount of ammunition and hand grenades.

An Army personnel succumbed to his injuries after a terror attack at an Army camp in Sunjwan area of Jammu and Kashmir in the wee hours of Saturday. She also said that her husband was also seriously injured in the attack and needs immediate evacuation.

A statement issued by the Indian army said over 150 houses inside the camp were cleared and their inmates evacuated to safer locations.

Mehbooba paid rich tributes to the slain Army men, praised their valour and sympathised with the bereaved families of soldiers.

In the initial attack, Subedar Madan Lal Chowdhry, his daughter, Neha, and Lance Naik Bahadur Singh were injured.

The fidayeen entered the camp from its rear side at 4.10am and started firing indiscriminately.

Mr. Vaid said the attack coincides with the death anniversary of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

Sunjuwan Brigade camp is just 5 to 6 km away from the heart of the Jammu city.

Investigators had found a message, written in Urdu, on piece of paper on the body of one of the four terrorists who was killed at Pathankot airbase in 2016. "We are with the government and the Army", he said.

Though no militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack, the authorities believe Jaish-e-Mohammad is behind it.

The gunmen were holed up in the residential area of the camp where soldiers and their families are housed, police chief of Jammu area S.D. Jamwal told reporters outside the camp. She also held a high-level meeting with General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Northern Command, Lieutenant General Devraj Anbu, to review the security situation in the state in the wake of terror attack.

National Conference MLA Muhammad Akbar Lone raised slogans to counter BJP MLAs.
