The wounded Israeli guard was taken to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli forces shot dead the suspected Palestinian mastermind of a fatal January ambush on another settler rabbi, Raziel Shevach.

Hamzah Zamara, 19, was killed after he was shot dead by Israeli soldiers near the southern West bank city of Hebron, the ministry said in a statement.

European Union officials have urged Israeli authorities to rebuild recently demolished classrooms that served Palestinian children living in Abu Nuwar community in the central West Bank.

Three other Palestinians are in critical condition, along with at least 110 others wounded. On Monday, a Palestinian reportedly stabbed a settler at the entrance of the Ariel settlement near Salfit and managed to escape.

Israeli soldiers killed, on Tuesday at night, a young Palestinian man, and injured 110, including 32 who were shot with live ammunition, in Nablus city, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank. The military said the suspect was not apprehended in the operation and seven people were detained for questioning.

"Our heroes in the occupied West Bank wrote a heroic epic that made the Zionists lose sleep and put their security establishment on alert", Al Qassam Brigades said in a statement.

There were further calls for more settlement construction at Tuesday's funeral for Ben Gal, held at the Har Bracha settlement where he lived, Israeli media reported.

Israel's Shin Bet domestic security agency said that during the attempted arrest, the "terrorist" came out of a building and security forces fired in his direction. One of the detainees was a father whom Israeli soldiers detained in order to force his son to turn himself in.

Israeli settlements are seen as illegal under global law and a major obstacle to peace as they are built on Palestinian land, seen as central to a future Palestinian state.

The EU officials called upon "the Israeli authorities to halt demolitions and confiscations of Palestinian houses and property in accordance with its obligations as an occupying power under worldwide humanitarian law".

Israel faced sharp criticism from the administration of former U.S. president Barack Obama over settlement construction, but that has not been the case with Trump's White House.
