National Football League investigates harassment claims on Panthers interim GM

  • Carolina Panthers interim general manager Marty Hurney speaks to the media during a news conference in Charlotte N.C. Wednesday

The 62-year-old Hurney has been in charge of the personnel department in Carolina since the team fired general manager Dave Gettleman before last season.

Jeanne Hurney filed the complaint Friday but has since withdrawn it after the judge who heard the complaint denied a temporary restraining order.

Hurney became the interim GM for the Panthers at the start of training camp in 2017, after Dave Gettleman was sacked by the team.

The NFL's investigation into allegations against Hurney comes just months after former owner Jerry Richardson stepped down as the Panthers' owner.

Later in the report, she also mentioned that "I feel my phone, my laptop and my security system have all been hacked by him or his proxies", and that she did not feel safe at work or at home. The next time the two will meet in court will be on February 16th for a hearing on the complaint.

Kathi Lucchesi, one of Marty Hurney's lawyers, said the allegations are "complete fiction".

On top of the possible home violence, Jeanne included in her complaint that she believes Marty or his associates broke into her home where the "intruders" placed notes in her books around words like "terrorize" and "victim".

"The club advised the league of the matter in a timely fashion, and it is being reviewed under the personal conduct policy", NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said.

Adding to the drama was Jeanne Hurney's withdrawal of her complaint. Hurney notified the Panthers on Sunday of the filing, Drummond said.

Jim Warren, a Charlotte attorney who represented Marty Hurney through part of his divorce case, said the allegations "obviously are not based on acts of domestic violence".

Carolina have interviewed Jimmy Raye III, Lake Dawson, and Martin Mayhew for the general manager position.
