  • Congress, BJP In War Of Words Over PM's

In his rally to mark the culmination of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) state-wide parivartan yatra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Karnataka would be prove to be yet another state which would reject the "misrule" of the Congress. Here also they are projecting a chief minister candidate who has been to jail.

"Even if Modi makes 100 visits to the state or (BJP chief) Amit Shah engineers communal riots, we will win the upcoming state elections", the Congress leader said.

In an attempt to please the people at the rally, the Prime Minister delivered the first few lines of his address in Kannada. After edging victory across Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh election, now the party is engrossing itself for the elections of several north-eastern states and Karnataka. Siddaramaiah once again hit back at him in another tweet.

The state BJP has, however, accused the Siddaramaiah of attempting to skirt state issues by invoking Modi. "The Congress government is at the exit gate", he said referring to the IT raids at the residences of two state ministers.

"I have been told that the Karnataka government is being recognised as "10 percent government" as no work is possible without 10 percent commission", he said at the rally.

Backing his government, Siddaramaiah said, "Our state is still no. 1 in IT/BT".

Reacting to the "pot" jibe against Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Congress social media head Divya Spandana (Ramya), Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said character assassination of anyone individually was not right. He promised that Karnataka would be "Congress-mukt' and also free of the corruption". "In this budget, the (central) government has made a significant decision so that correct price of crops is given to farmers. There is nothing more shameful than this", he said. The students were protesting against PM Modi's recent remarks that selling pakodas is also a form of employment and can be seen in the light of "job creation". "Around 34 lakh toilets have been built under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan", he further said. "When I say TOP, I mean whichever part of the country you go, three vegetables are very much visible - Tomato, Onion and Potato".

Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the BJP rally at the Palace Grounds in Bengaluru, former PM and JD (S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda heard the Prime Minister's speech on his cell phone, sitting at Shravanabelagola in Hassan District, where the Bahubali Mastabhishekha is scheduled to commence from February 7.

Aware that the PM was preparing the pitch for the BJP campaign in the coming Assembly polls, the CM took him on head-on, saying people had expected him to speak on the Mahadayi row, "but there was no mention of the river water dispute in his speech". He (Modi), was the chief minister then. Additionally, Siddaramaiah has been making inroads into the Lingayat camp - a community that accounts for 15 to 17 per cent votes.
