The news about Trump's displeasure with the deputy AG comes on the heels of reports that Trump tried to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller last June, just weeks after he fired then-FBI Director Comey, who at the time was overseeing the bureau's Russian Federation investigation - like Rosenstein is now.

Speaking to CNN's Erin Burnett on Friday night, White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah said "there has been no change in the president's confidence in the deputy attorney general".

Rosenstein, who had been confirmed by the Senate 94 to 6 and was known as an independent and apolitical prosecutor, was harshly attacked for his role in the Comey firing.

A secret court must renew surveillance on a US citizen every 90 days. So for the Nunes memo to be accurate, dozens of FBI countersurveillance agents and career Justice Department officials, and the federal judiciary, would have had to be part of a plot.

Prior to the memo's release, Pelosi sent a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday claiming "Nunes' deliberately dishonest actions make him unfit to serve as chairman" and demanded that he be "removed immediately from his position".

Democrats argue that the memo is based on "cherry picked" information.

But even if the President did fire Rosenstein, the Mueller investigation wouldn't simply go away.

It's a very open-ended insinuation, one that's barely there at all.

He frowned when he made the Oval Office statement about Rosenstein. He doesn't care if the memo's release damages national intelligence. Rosenstein is in fact from Philadelphia, Pa., though he is a longtime resident of Maryland.

Trump's talked about it before. "The appointment of the Special Counsel was squarely within the Acting Attorney General's authority and consistent with the Department's Special Counsel regulations".

But Rosenstein again raised the president's ire over the House Intelligence Committee's memo.

But as the two talked, the president allegedly asked Rosenstein about the special counsel's Russian Federation investigation and where it was headed.

"Well, the president has the ability to fire his at-will employees, so if the president fired Rosenstein, I would support that", Comer said. The FBI has said it has "grave concerns" that the memo leaves out important material, creating an inaccurate impression of its work.

"Trump and this administration have see little reason for justifying their actions", said Carl Tobias with the University of Richmond law school.

Well, in and of themselves, not a lot, but they reflect a pattern of Trump trying to secure loyalty at the Justice Department.
