Protesting Against Donald Trump's Presidency, Women Carry Out March

22 January, 2018, 02:18 | Author: Rachael Silva
  • One year ago the Women’s March descended on Washington D.C. Jan. 21 the day after Donald Trump’s inauguration

Nationwide, demonstrations from NY to Washington, D.C., to Oklahoma City to Los Angeles were planned on the first anniversary of President Trump's inauguration and throughout the weekend. Additionally, the march in Washington in 2017 was about three times the size of the crowd at Trump's inauguration, crowd scientists said at the time. To show that we're still resisting a year later, the 2018 Women's March is taking place all around the country on Saturday, January 20th.

"Get out there now to celebrate the historic milestones and unprecedented economic success and wealth creation that has taken place over the last 12 months", he tweeted.

With the crucial midterm elections looming later this year, organizers of the Women's March sought to capitalize on their momentum by staging a second round of protests and rallies around the country. "Beautiful weather all over our great country, a flawless day for all Women to March", the president said. Without naming him (but confirmed by her representative later), she said: "How could a person publicly stand by an organization that helps to provide support for victims of sexual assault while privately preying on people who have no power?"

"It's a time where we're not just showing up, folks are saying that, hey, we actually need to be sitting in those chairs", Robinson said.

Protesters are expected to denounce Trump's hardline immigration policies, promote women's rights, address the gender pay gap and concerns about health care, and call for the removal of barriers to voting by marginalized communities.

The march from city hall to the Capitol included a group of women who wore red capes and white bonnets like characters from the dystopian novel "The Handmaid's Tale". "With more women running for office, we will take back this country and return democracy to where it belongs".

Among public figures addressing the protesters in the USA capital were senior Democratic Party leaders, who remained in Washington for the weekend due to the government shutdown. Kirsten Gillibrand and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi urged women to run for office and vote.

People gathered from Montpelier to Milwaukee, from Shreveport to Seneca Falls.

"He refuses to co-operate with us", said one protester, Terri Parsons from Winslow, Arizona, who travelled to the nation's capital to demonstrate against what she termed Mr Trump's regressive views.

Hundreds also took part in Brisbane's CBD carrying signs and chanting.

She asked a few friends via the social media platform to march on Washington with her in protest.

"Women are very upbeat and very inspired especially by what's going on at marches in NY and Texas", she said.

Across the globe, people hit the streets on the anniversary of Trump's inauguration, marching against his policies and in support of the #MeToo movement against sexual assault and harassment.

"I look overall not at what he says but what he does". "Everything is moving toward the right, and we have a president who seems to have no decency". By mid-morning, people gathered in Chicago, Los Angeles, Denver and Raleigh, North Carolina. She spoke up about the criticism she received after revealing her own experiences of abuse.
