"Yes. Probably, in a similar context".

"But our context was very different - so I don't want to take any bets".

Mr Macron, as a committed supporter of European integration, added he would fight "very hard" to keep France in the EU if it were to hold a referendum on membership of the bloc.

Macron's comments echo those he made during a meeting Thursday in which he and British Prime Minister Theresa May pledged closer cooperation on defense and border security after Britain leaves the European Union in March 2019.

He admits he still wants to "attract maximum activity" to Paris as the dialogue between financial firms continues.

"As a result of the European Union referendum they will have to choose between the different cities, so there is a competition between the different cities".

Macron also broached the subjects of Trump's nuclear threats directed at North Korea.

The French President said she shared the outrage felt by many French-speaking African nations over the U.S. leader.

His expression of solidarity came after Marr asked the French president whether he shared the outrage of African nations that were offended by the comment. "And if we want, precisely, to build peace, development in these countries and a respectful relationship", you can't use those words "by definition".

"He is. Sometimes I manage to convince him, and sometimes I fail", Macron said on the British talk show.

"And I do believe that we have to respect all the countries. that's what we owe them and that's much more efficient".

Also appearing on the show, Labour's shadow chancellor John McDonnell claimed he agreed with Mr Macron's assessment that Brexit was due to a sense that "neoliberalism has alienated people".

Emmanuel Macron suggested today that he would back a bespoke trade deal with the European Union but warned that the United Kingdom would have to accept "preconditions".

Mrs May has committed the United Kingdom to leaving the single market, but Mr Macron indicated that was the only way to get the access she wanted for the economically important financial services industry.

"But this special way of settling the issue must remain true to the principle of maintaining the single market", warned Macron.
