There will be a vigil Friday at 7:00 pay respects to football player Tyler Hilinski, who was found dead in his apartment Tuesday, according to the WSU student body president.

"We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Tyler's passing. The entire WSU community mourns as thoughts and prayers go out to his family", Head Football Coach Mike Leach said in a statement.

Hilinski was expected to be the starter for the Cougars next season.

Hilinski's first start was the 2017 SDCCU Holiday Bowl against the Michigan State Spartans.

The death of Washington State quarterback Tyler Hilinski has officially been ruled a suicide.

Tyler Hilinski's teammates also turned to social media to express their grief.

"The tragic news today surrounding Tyler Hilinski is devastating to all".

Hilinski completed 154 of 209 passes for 1,421 yards with nine touchdowns and eight intereptions in two seasons in a backup role to Luke Falk, who completed his college career this season as the Pac-12's all-time leader in passing yards (14,486) and TD passes (119).

The interim Director of Athletics John Johnson released a statement as well stating that the team was brought together to inform them of the tragedy. They were met by campus and department counseling and psychological services, including the athletic department's on-staff clinical psychologist and a licensed mental health counselor, along with the department's medical team. "The university will continue to coordinate and provide ongoing counseling care for all student-athletes as along as needed".

On Wednesday 17th January 2018, Washington State was planned to present Pat Chun as its new athletic executive, but that news gathering has been deferred.

Hilinski is from Claremont, Calif, and went to high school at nearby Upland.
