Apple, Google Buses Under Attack

The buses were attacked on highway 280, so the company has made a decision to divert them from that road, even though doing so would extend the commute time by 30-45 minutes in either direction.

One of the emails noted that "There is nothing confirmed but it is suspected that a pellet gun might have been used in these incidents".

Apple's shuttles appear to be under attack. At least one of the buses only had the outer pane of its double-paned windows broken.

CHP said the buses were attacked with some sort of projectile while on interstate 280 between Cupertino and San Francisco. The memo went on to note that bus routes will be temporarily diverted away from I-280, the highway on which the incidents occurred.

Buses chartered by Silicon Valley tech giants like Google, Apple, and Facebook have sparked heated debates and protests in the past, with activists arguing that companies should be fined for picking up employees at city bus stops without paying taxes and disrupting San Francisco public transportation. According to reports, pellet guns were used to execute the attack. Following the incidents, both the tech firms have rerouted employee buses keeping in mind the safety of their employees.

Multiple shuttle buses carrying Apple and Google employees were hit by unknown objects in a targeted spree on Tuesday.

The CHP says they are working with other law enforcement agencies and Apple's security team since the majority of the buses have been transporting their people.

While the exact method by which the buses are being attacked remains unclear, that fact that real damage has been done is not.

"Luckily, there haven't been any injuries or accidents but we do take this very seriously because if the driver gets distracted, it could cause a major crash and we could have injuries", Montiel said. Mashable obtained the email and has verified its authenticity.

The shuttle buses were not marked with the logo of the tech company using them.

Apple and Google might be rivals on the tech scene but seem to have a common enemy, one that seems keen to take things to a more physical level.
