What you need to know about Overwatch League

The teams met in combat for the first time during the pre-season from December 6th to 9th. Preseason matches were broadcast exclusively on MLG-which has not offered any viewership statistics-but the regular season matches that begin tomorrow will be the first to stream on Twitch. The Los Angeles valiant beat out the San Francisco Shock 4-0.

Overwatch players won't be left twiddling their thumbs, either.

With the first match set to kick off on January 10, players can now purchase skins for their favourite teams in-game with the use of unique credits.

The Overwatch League regular season is split up into four stages, with each stage lasting five weeks. Blizzard has understood this and attempted to enforce this passion in the Overwatch League, and it's working.

Games are also being broadcast on MLG, the Overwatch League website and app, and a new tab in Blizzard's Battle.net desktop app. An ESPN report cited a source as saying Overwatch had signed with another Chinese broadcaster, though the partner was not specified.

The first season of the Overwatch League will run until June, with playoffs and finals scheduled for July. Matches will bep layed each Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday AEDT - so be sure to check out the official site for full schedule info. From there, you can select a team and browse through the team branded skins for all 26 Overwatch heroes.

As many young consumers, particularly young males, watch less traditional television, platforms like Twitch believe they are positioned to pick up some of that slack. One of the biggest tasks that lay ahead of the production was to make the game's chaotic action easy to follow across 12 players, and day one of the Overwatch League was evidence that this has been achieved. The last game will see Boston Uprising play against New York Excelsior.

Back in the press room, Blizzard had both the winning and losing teams hold press conferences after the games for the over 80+ outlets that showed up to the opening festivities.
