  • Medical marijuana supporters worry in light of Sessions guidance

The department issued a statement on Thursday outlining its stance on federal marijuana enforcement policy, telling all USA attorneys to enforce the Controlled Substances Act, a law on the books since 1970 which classifies marijuana as an illegal drug.

Only Idaho, South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas do not allow any access to marijuana, said Karmen Hanson, a cannabis policy analyst with the National Conference of State Legislatures. At least not yet.

Moen said initial industry reaction to Thursday's announcement by Sessions was "knee-jerk, approaching panic". Petersburg, who has always been a leader on medical marijuana policy in the state.

"What the USA doesn't need is another frontline in the War on Drugs". Colorado and Washington became the first states to legalize recreational marijuana in 2012. This decision will create massive uncertainty, hurt local businesses and tax revenue, and harm public safety by driving cannabis activity back into the more unsafe black market.

With the biggest state in the country now selling recreational marijuana and MA ready to start in a matter of months it's a sure bet that legalizing pot will once again be a hot issue when the General Assembly session opens in February. A few attorneys have tried to go after it without a lot of success. Marijuana entrepreneurs are betting big on the future of their industry, pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into greenhouses and lighting systems, and renting processing warehouses and retail space to sell pot to eager customers.

Attorney General Sessions' decision to rescind the @TheJusticeDept's Cole Memo is a slap in the face of the voters in every state that has chosen to legalize #marijuana.

Among the guidance that Sessions rescinded was the so-called Ogden Memorandum of 2009 that instructed federal prosecutors not to pursue cases against medical marijuana patients and distributors who complied with state laws.

Medical marijuana has been legal in California since 1996 and legal recreational use went into effect on January 1 - both laws ratified by voters via referendums.

Canadian securities regulators have said companies must disclose any connection to the US marijuana industry but have not prohibited them from listing in Canada.

"Washington voters led the way in legalizing marijuana five years ago, taking an important step in reducing mass incarceration, strengthening public health, and bolstering our economy - and I will fight for them". It never had any teeth to it.

Even when the Republican National Committee made a decision to resume its support for Moore's campaign, despite cutting ties just weeks earlier, Gardner and the NRSC held fast.

"As the Justice Department has highlighted, medical studies confirm that marijuana is in fact a risky drug, and it is illegal under federal law", Lelling said.

"This is happening at a time when real institutional money and actors are starting to play in this space, and now those guys are going to go right back to the sidelines", Pollara said.

The State of OR has had a lot of trouble recently with overproduction of cannabis leading to illegal exportation to other states. "If investors start backing out, that will make it more hard for these companies to deliver to the thousands of patients whove registered for this across the state".

Last year, the Legislature approved Senate Bill 333, which increased state oversight and regulation over medical marijuana. Several companies reached for comment did not return calls and emails Thursday.

"Surterra will continue to cultivate and distribute medical cannabis to the thousands of patients using this all-natural plant to treat pain, cancer, PTSD and all the other ailments people suffer from that marijuana can help", Jake Bergmenn, CEO of Surterra, said in an email.

This is just the latest example of President Trump and his Administration breaking their promises and trying to jam through an ideological agenda that would be deeply damaging to people in Washington state and across the country.

"I think there is a bipartisan path to provide border security, to move forward on a solution for children of a very young age brought here through no fault of their own", he said. "Im getting in at a value that I could not if this hadnt happened". "Im going full steam ahead".
