Paladins Announces Team Based Battle Royale Mode

05 January, 2018, 13:31 | Author: Lydia Fleming
  • Paladins is getting a battle royale mode called, er, Battlegrounds

"Designed from the ground-up to be played in teams, players must work together to survive in Paladins: Battlegrounds". Much like the underlying game, Paladins: Battlegrounds will rely on hero powers.

Following the enormous success of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, the concept of the battle royale has spawned a number of games based on a similar principle.

An Alpha version of Paladins: Battlegrounds is playable now at Hi-Rez Expo while the full release of this new mode is expected to land later this year, free-to-play just like the rest of the game. Heroes will be able to hop onto their mounts and start exploring the map, looting all sorts of gear to take on other players. Making fights between the 100 players more frequent. Although the mode is clearly inspired by (or ripped directly from) PUBG, the main game of Paladins is actually more like Blizzard's Overwatch than anything else. Team Deathmatch will go live with a new map, Trade District.

Besides the announcement of new game modes to Paladins, you can also expect a new hero to be added to the game. She rides a summoned two-headed dragon into battle, feeding it snacks to reload its magical energy. Along with getting a pretty sweet looking mount, Twitch Prime members will also receive a new Bomb King skin as well.

During a press conference at HRX 2018, Hi-Rez Studios CEO Erez Goren confirmed that the developer will have games coming to the Nintendo Switch soon.

Esports Insider says: We're going to see a whole lot of battle royale type games appear this year trying to grab a slice of the pie that PUBG has beautifully baked this year.
