Long Lines At Miami International Airport Due To US Customs Computer Issue

According to CNN, the temporary outage lasted two hours and affected global travelers passing through several major airports, including New York's John F. Kennedy worldwide.
Customs and Border Protection began the new year with a computer outage that caused long lines at several airports. CBS News reported approximately 2,000 passengers were left waiting in customs lines at Miami International Airport.
Other airports, including Denver International Airport, also said they were affected.
The outage is affecting other airports across the county, according to an official familiar with the situation.
A spokesperson tells CBS News that Customs and Border Patrol has been contacted and are investigating.
According to the statement by the customs agency, the processing system went down at around 7:30 pm EST and the issue was resolved at 9:30 pm EST. All airports are now back online. Travelers at some ports of entry experienced longer than usual wait times as CBP officers processed travelers as quickly as possible while maintaining the highest levels of security. CBP officers continued to process global travelers using alternative procedures at affected airports.
Even modern systems such as the Amadeus Altea are prone to random failures, the website says.
The disruption was not thought to be "malicious in nature", CBP said.
