Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles - 12/31/17 NFL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

  • Preview: Eagles wrap up season against Dallas

He needs to continue to get Nick Foles reps with the first-team offense, but at the same time not risk injuries to any significant players heading into the postseason. The idea was to build a little confidence and momentum to carry into the playoffs.

Instead, the concerns that cropped up on Christmas night were reinforced.

Foles was expected to be pulled early today, but he was not expected to struggle as he did. That game, was, in essence, a meaningless game and the Eagles beat Dallas, as many of their starters did not play much of the game. The first unit was 0-for-3 on third down Sunday after going 1-for-14 against the Raiders. Sudfeld, though he resembles Foles physically, is better athlete than Foles. He has 36 receptions for 314 yards and 4 touchdowns.

By activating Jones, the Eagles ensure the rookie will be able to practice with the team throughout their playoff run and add depth at cornerback. Defensively, the Eagles are a sound unit and after a questionable few games, shut the Oakland Raiders completely down. The Eagles now own a 13-2 record and have achieved every possible goal a team had for the regular season. This is a flawless week for them to get some extra rest an avoid a pointless injury before heading into the playoffs. If the past two weeks have proved anything, it's that this is not the same team that routinely blew out opponents with Wentz at the helm.

Beasley began to become an even more prominent member of the offense in 2015, as he brought down 52 catches for 536 yards while reaching the end zone five times. The defense is the strength. The Cowboys were in this spot against the Eagles past year and Dak Prescott and the rest of the offense played a series before things were eventually turned over to Mark Sanchez. Running back Jay Ajayi was the lone offensive starter inactive against the Cowboys. Him and his receivers need to create some chemistry together while at the same time avoiding a big injury.

While the Eagles can tweak their approach to accentuate their strengths and partially mask their vulnerabilities, you can't hide your quarterback for an entire Super Bowl run. They want to keep their players fresh and ready for the playoffs while at the same time avoiding injury.
