  • 'Bundle Up!': Trump Mocks Paris Climate Accord as His Hometown Freezes

President Trump continues his denial of climate change.

In the latest display of his best words, Trump tweeted Thursday alluding to how the cold wave on the East Coast was proof that global warming was not real.

He continued: "Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming that our Country, but not other countries, was going to pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against". In 2015, Trump said cold weather in Manhattan meant NY "could use a big fat dose of global warming". Ergo, he this year pulled the USA out of the historic Paris Accord to combat climate change after he ranted against India and China. Daily or weekly weather patterns "say nothing about longer term climate change", said J. Marshall Shepherd, director of the atmospheric sciences program at the University of Georgia and a former president of the American Meteorological Society.

Over the weekend in Erie, Pa., around 50 inches of lake-effect snow fell in the city as well, making for a cold and snowy Christmas.

Just in 2017, there have been devastating wildfires and hurricanes and floods, as well as the hottest months and lowest polar ice covers on record. For one, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator Scott Pruitt, a fellow climate denier, has known ties with the fossil fuel industry.

Trump's tweets have caused an online backlash, with many Twitter users pointing out the difference between weather and climate.

Sean Spicer, former White House press secretary, told reporters earlier this year that Trump's tweets should be treated as official presidential statements, which appears to mean the official U.S. position is that global warming could be a good thing.

In 2015, he wrote: "It's really cold outside, they are calling it a major freeze, weeks ahead of normal". This also isn't the first time he's said global warming would be welcomed.
