Jammu: Pakistani troops fired at patrolling army in the Kerry sector of Rajouri district in Jammu Kashmir, in which one Major and three soldiers were martyred.

The army said in a statement that Pakistani soldiers violated the 2003 cease-fire accord by targeting Indian forward posts on Saturday in Rajouri sector. The injured soldier has been airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Qamar had said that issues with India could be solved through talks instead of war.

Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas and three jawans were injured in the attack seriously who later succumbed to injuries.

The statement said that the dead included an army officer. Major Ambadas (32), Bhandara of Maharashtra Were residents of the district. Hailing from District Karnal, Haryana, Sepoy Pargat Singh, 30, is survived by wife Ramanpreet Kaur and a son.

At least four Indian soldiers on border patrol have been killed by Pakistani fire on the de facto border of the disputed region Kashmir.

They said army men also returned the fire and targeted Pakistani army posts and bunkers with similar caliber weapons.


Defence spokesperson colonel NN Joshi described the firing as a ceasefire violation by the neighbouring country.

Defence sources, however, said four Army personnel were killed in the "unprovoked" firing.

Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh also paid tributes to the slain soldiers.

Earlier this week Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir had informed the Lok Sabha that a total of 881 "ceasefire violations" have taken place along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir this year, killing 30 people.

Following the incident, heavy cross-border firing and shelling was reported at several places in the region.

Singh offered condolences with the bereaved families and prayed for eternal peace to their departed souls.
