A California man was charged Friday with plotting to aid ISIS by traveling to Syria or staging an attack in San Francisco on Christmas Day, though court documents suggest he later got cold feet.

Authorities said 26-year-old Everitt Aaron Jameson was arrested at his home in Modesto on Wednesday morning.

The suspect, Everitt Aaron Jameson, 26, is accused of providing "material support or resources to a foreign terrorist organization" between October 24 and December 20, and expressing his willingness to "do anything for 'the cause, '" according to an affidavit filed by FBI Special Agent Christopher McKinney. Jameson said he also wanted to use explosives and that Christmas Day would be the flawless day. Jameson also stated that Christmas was the "perfect day to plan the attack", the documents state.

The terror plot seemed to unravel earlier this week.

The suspect outlined to undercover agents how he wanted to use explosives to target crowds at the pier between December 18 and 25 because "Christmas was the flawless day to commit the attack". He "loved" an online post that showed Santa Claus threatening an attack in NY with a box of dynamite. A note he evidently intended for publication after the attack swore allegiance to ISIS and cited President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel as a reason for his actions. He also told the undercover agent he needed timers and remote detonators, the documents state. The FBI investigation revealed that Jameson was previously discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps for failing to disclose his latent asthma.

Jameson allegedly sought from the Federal Bureau of Investigation employee an assault rifle, ammunition, powder, tubing and nails - materials that can be made into a pipe bomb. It was written in the past tense and said that "you all have brought this upon yourselves".

Jameson, who was set for an afternoon court appearance in federal court in Fresno, had attended Marine basic recruit training in 2009 and earned a sharpshooter rifle qualification.

An individual reported Jameson for suspicious activity on Facebook after he allegedly posted GIFs of attacks in the USA and the New York City attack that left 8 people dead in October, court documents say.

"Each and every Kuffar in this Nationalistic, Godless society has a hand in this", the note read. Both You and he are wrong, it belongs to the Muslemeen. These Acts will continue until the Lions of Islam overtake you. I've reconsidered." He later added, "In Sha Allah one day I can.
