Rony Abovitz founded the company in 2010, and he first demonstrated some of the technology his company was developing at the 2011 San Diego Comic Con. In 2014, Google invested half a billion dollars, and in February 2016, the company secured another $793 million in Series C funding. It's the first time Magic Leap has put a deadline on its product. Magic Leap said it uses Lightfield Photonics to generate digital light that blends seamlessly with the real-world lighting.

While the patent states that Magic Leap applied for it in September 2015 and that Magic Leap is the assignee, the company denied it depicts its actual glasses.

A lot is still unclear about what the company is aiming for in terms of a consumer release, but what's is clear is that this design is based on what Magic Leap thinks it will be able to accomplish, it was sure to note in the announcement that the "product is continually advancing and may be different at time of shipment".

Magic Leap One is a more than just a pair of AR glasses with a camera on it (see: Snapchat Spectacles and its less-than-a-year popularity span).

Here's hoping Magic Leap One changes that. Magic Leap said it will make an SDK available with display, interface, audio, and sensor technology.

The Magic Leap One is confirmed at last as due for a commercial launch sometime in 2018, presumably beating Apple's own mysterious dedicated AR device to market. There will also be a touch controller that features haptic feedback. Dubbed Lightwear, the goggle-style headset promises "amazing experiences that feel natural", all powered by a hip-mounted, puck-shaped computer called a Lightpack. We are more of a premium artisanal computer, " suggesting we are nearly certainly talking about several thousand dollars. We'll have to track where the Magic Leap price lands. Whether or not Magic Leap One can deliver that remains to be seen.

Magic Leap has unveiled its hotly anticipated augmented reality goggles.

At long last, the day has come. Magic Leap has shared a first look at what they've been working on in their Plantation, Florida offices. Digital objects placed in the world will also have permanence, so if you put a digital TV in your real living room, that TV will still be there when you return.

Magic Leap's Lightwear device is a far cry from the bulky, face-hugging platforms that have become popular in VR, instead using wraparound steampunk-style goggles.

Magic Leap spent years behind closed doors refining its technology and developing hardware. Magic Leap said that in "early 2018" that it would open up a software-development kit with tools, documentation, and support for developers.
