Brady's trainer banned from Patriots sideline and team plane

  • Bill Belichick Tom Brady

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has restricted Tom Brady's trainer Alex Guerrero from some privileges he'd been allowed prior to this season. Guerrero was allowed to have his own office near the Patriots' locker room at the stadium, to fly on the team charter to road games, and to have access to the sidelines at every game.

Brady will continue to work with Guerrero, but it's hard to find any lasting dings in the Patriots' armor - or any sign that Brady may not haunt the Bills into his mid-40s - so any indication of a rift between Brady and Belichick should make Bills fans' ears perk up.

Belichick and Brady have continued to be tight-lipped about the situation, with Brady expressing confidence in Guerrero and crediting his methods as a big part of why Brady is still playing football at age 40, the Globe reported.

In 2015, the organization's doctors/training staff reportedly complained to Belichick about Guerrero's expanding role with the team.

The trainer has an office near the Patriots locker room at Gillette Stadium. State regulators in MA also intervened, believing he was practicing physical therapy without a license.

Under the new rules, he can no longer board Patriots flights, be on the sideline, or treat anyone other than Brady. He was sanctioned by federal regulators for falsely presenting himself as a medical doctor.

Brady's bond with Guerrero became so strong that in 2010 he endorsed a beverage called Neurosafe that Guerrero's supplement company marketed as "a drink that protects your brain from the consequences of sports-related traumatic brain injury".

Brady and several other players have trained and received treatment there since the center opened in 2013, according to the newspaper.

The strong personal and professional relationship between the two is supposedly what convinced Belichick to let Guerrero into the fold, giving him unparalleled access to the team despite a somewhat shady history of practice. "What am I supposed to do?"

In an interview with 98.5 The Sports Hub, Patriots president Jonathan Kraft said he's aware of circulating rumors about a feud between Belichick and Guerrero.

But if there's one thing Belichick doesn't have much patience for (aside from losing), it's distractions plaguing his team.
