  • Israel remands Palestinian girl filmed slapping soldier in West Bank

He said at least 30 soldiers were involved in the raid and arrest.

According to father of Ahed, Bassem Tamimi, a large Israeli force raided the family home at dawn and arrested Ahed Tamimi while she was sleeping in her bed.

Supposedly, the video was shot on 15 of December in front of al-Tamimi's house.

The army said a preliminary investigation into the incident showed the soldiers "acted professionally and were not dragged into violence".

In response, every Friday Israeli soldiers are deployed to suppress the protests, leading to clashes, tear gas, night raids and numerous dead and injured villagers.

She started attending the protests there when she was just nine years old.

Israeli Education Minister Naftali Bennett told Army Radio this morning that he believed the young girls in the video "should finish their lives in prison".

Social media expert, Mohammed Abu al-Rub, believes that this type of recording, while it boosts the morale of people with symbolic victories in the face of major disappointments and the United States declaration that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, constitute a threat to the people involved in them.

Since years, the village has been the scene for many protests against Halamish illegal settlement, of which the construction led to land confiscation and theft of water from the local spring belonging to the Palestinians.

Though the video has been hailed by Tamimi's supporters as a courageous act in the struggle of the Palestinian people, the viral video has also been used by pro-Israel voices who instead saw the clash as a display of "IDF restraint and professionalism", the Post reported.

"They didn't give a reason for her arrest", he told AFP.

Manal Tamimi, who is related to Ahed, wrote on Twitter that the video "is exactly fitting our narrative".

Users on social media described Ahed as courageous, daring and handsome. That is precisely what didn't happen this week, and it is what disrupted all of the rules of the game, so much so that Channel 2 commentator Roni Daniel said Monday that he is unperturbed by the possibility that soldiers might be caught on camera beating the girls who disrespected them.

Two years ago, the family made headlines when an Israeli soldier violently attempted to arrest Nariman's son Muhammad, who had one arm in a cast at the time. One year later, she witnessed the army shoot and kill her uncle Rashadi.

In a short documentary, Ahed said that her dream is to become a football player, describing the difficulty she faces at the Israeli checkpoint when she wants to get to school.
