The White House confirmed Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with President Donald Trump in what Russian state media has described as a thank-you call following a Central Intelligence Agency tip about a bomb threat in St. Petersburg.

US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone conversation have welcomed the prevention of a terror attack in Russia as a positive example of bilateral cooperation.

The Kremlin said Putin phoned the USA president to thank him and to convey his gratitude to the CIA, adding that Russian security agencies would continue to provide any information they obtained about potential terror threats against the U.S., as it has done in the past.

Russia's FSB security service said in a statement on Friday that it had detained seven members of a cell of Islamic State supporters and seized a significant amount of explosives, weapons and extremist literature.

"Vladimir Putin assured Donald Trump that the Russian intelligence services upon receipt of information relating to terrorist threats against the U.S. and its citizens, will immediately transmit to its American colleagues in partner channels", the statement added.

The White House says United States intelligence services were pleased to have helped thwart a terrorist plot in Russian Federation that "could have killed large numbers of people". Trump was additionally made a request to forward Putin's thankfulness to CIA Director Mike Pompeo and the knowledge authorities who got the data.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed the Russian account of the call.

The pioneers' relationship is muddled by continuous examinations concerning the Trump crusade's connections to Moscow.

That has been complicated by USA allegations - denied by Russian Federation - that the Kremlin meddled in last year's US presidential election to help Trump win.

The phone call on Sunday between Trump and Putin was at least the second such call in the past week. They last spoke by telephone on Thursday, when they discussed US-Russian ties and the increasing tensions surrounding North Korea. Putin has denied the allegation.
