The resort posted on social media that the chair lift malfunctioned and apologized to patrons.

A witness told WJAC-TV she watched as the lift malfunctioned and several chairs crashed into each other.

It took ski patrol and emergency officials about two hours to evacuate those who were stranded on the lift.

Tussey Mountain, having just opened for the season Saturday, also dispelled rumors of a collapse, claiming all chairs are still attached and all towers still stand.

'How about you show some concern for the employees and other people injured???' she said.

State police confirmed at least five people suffered minor injuries, the station reported.

It said 20 skiers were "stuck/pinned with injuries".

The chairlift remained closed for the rest of the day but will be reopened on Friday if it is proven to be safe enough to use again, he said. "Stay tuned. #sorry", which drew some criticism.

"At the time the office was notified of a lift malfunction and when this original tweet was made, we were under the impression it was exclusively a lift issue and there were no injuries".

The ski resort later apologized and said at the time they were under the impression it was exclusively a malfunction and were not aware of the injuries.

Emergency crew have launched an operation to rescue people stuck on the lift on Tussey Mountain, in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, US.

Tussey Mountain apologized for the inconvenience caused to all skiers and snowboarders and thanked everyone for their patience and understanding, according to Weyman.
