  • Nikki Haley accuses Iran of violating UN Security Council resolution

"These hyperboles" serve the USA agenda in the Middle East including the administration's "unbridled support for the Israeli regime", said the spokesman.

The agency said Saudi Arabia also welcomed the U.S. stand announced by Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and demanded "immediate measures to implement" relevant UN Security Council resolutions and to hold Tehran accountable for its actions.

The ambassador added that the situation will "lead us to the next North Korea", if the world does not do anything to stop Iran.

Haley will demonstrate "Iran has deliberately violated its global obligations and has tried and failed to cover up these violations‎", according to a press briefing on the USA mission to the UN's website.

Successive U.S. administrations have warned of Irans malign influence in the Middle East, but lying in a hangar at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling here is concrete proof that the Iranian regime is exporting arms to sow instability and promote violence throughout the region.

The United States on Thursday presented for the first time pieces of what it said were Iranian weapons supplied to Houthi militia in Yemen, describing it as conclusive evidence that Tehran was violating UN resolutions.

This in itself does not necessarily contravene the deal, however, as the agreement does not explicitly forbid ballistic missile production or distributing arms.

Under the 2015 United Nations resolution on Iran's nuclear program, the supply, sale or transfer of ballistic missiles from the country must be approved by the United Nations security council on a case-by-case basis.

"Everyone has focused on the nuclear deal, and Iran has hidden behind the nuclear deal", Haley said.

Iran immediately dismissed the evidence as "fabricated", saying the accusations were baseless. "The report shows the Tehran regime not putting out fires, but fanning the flames of conflict in the region", Haley said.

Saudi Arabia accuses Iran of smuggling missiles to the Houthis through ports used to deliver humanitarian aid and food shipments to Yemen.

"This evidence demonstrates a pattern of behavior in which Iran sows conflict and extremism", Haley said, flanked by an array of mangled missile parts, a broken-up drone and other weaponry recovered by Persian Gulf allies of the United States.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Friday said Washington is using "alternative facts" to cover up its complicity in war crimes in Yemen.

The crisis has deteriorated under Saudi Arabia's month-long blockade of desperately needed aid supplies in Yemen, where almost 70 percent of the population depends on foreign aid to survive.

They also welcomed the American position announced by the United States Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, and its condemnation of Iran's hostile activities in supporting and arming terrorist groups. "We did this for a single urgent goal: Because the Iranian regime can not be allowed to engage in its lawless behavior any longer".

"Most people agree at this point that the Saudis are facing a legitimate security threat and that Iran is part of the problem", said April Alley, a Yemen researcher at the International Crisis Group. The exact nature and extent of the assistance are unclear, but what is publicly acknowledged includes USA provision of targeting information and refueling of Saudi warplanes. Gesturing to the missiles, she said, "These are the things they're doing while we're all looking the other way".

The report from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, which was obtained by AFP, said the officials were still analyzing the information.
