Report Alleges That Tidal Is Almost Out of Money

  • Tidal's cash flow will hold out for only six months

According to Norwegian news source Dagens Næringsliv, the JAY-Z owned streaming service is reportedly facing some pretty severe money woes.

However, the negative news on Tidal are contradictory with the actual facts.

Jay Z is yet to respond to the report.

Tidal, the high-fidelity streaming service relaunched with great celebrity fanfare by Jay Z in 2015, once again is the subject of speculation that its financial straits are dire.

JAY-Z's streaming service Tidal is once again running into problems, but this time, it's being reported that the service may not be around for much longer. Still, for comparison, Spotify's 2016 losses were around $581 million, though revenue was around $3 billion.

But there is one huge difference between the two. Sprint subscribers now get six months of free high-fidelity Tidal service and Sprint-Tidal customers also get exclusive content on the music service. Spotify charges $9.99 a month for Premium, but users can also use the service for free. Following the claim, Dagens Næringsliv stated the number was closer to 350,000. Tidal is reportedly still expecting to achieve profitability by the middle of next year. Former Kobalt Music Group boss and Sony Music global marketing president Richard Sanders took over for Jeff Toig, whose exit was announced in March.

Sprint's $75 million fund for exclusive content supported Jay's Grammy-nominated album "4:44", in a similar way to the TIDAL exclusives of Kanye West's "The Life of Pablo" and Beyoncé's "Lemonade".
