Roy Moore Accuser Admits She Added 'Notes' to Roy Moore Signature

  • Roy Moore accuser Beverly Young Nelson: 'I pray that he's changed'

"An update to this story reflects that Beverly Young Nelson admits writing what ABC News characterized as "notes" beneath what she says is Roy Moore's signature, and that the only notes below the signature are the date and location".

Moore denies ever having known her but did rule against her in a divorce proceeding years later when he was a judge.

At the November 13 news conference in NY where she initially aired her allegations, Nelson did not mention that she added anything to the note she said was Moore's.

Republican Roy Moore is running in Alabama's special Senate election Tuesday in a race that has parallels with Donald Trump's White House run.

She admitted to adding the date and location, but Young claims that the rest of the inscription was written and signed by Roy Moore.

Earlier in the day, conservative media outlets accused Nelson of forging the yearbook note.

He went on to make a now-familiar argument for electing Moore, saying the country can't afford to have a "liberal Democrat" representing Alabama in the Senate. "These allegations are completely false". And 33 days before Alabama's 2017 election, the Post published its first story about Moore's accusers, including one woman who said she was 14 when Moore, then a thirtysomething deputy district attorney, touched her inappropriately.

The Moore campaign previously attacked the credibility of Nelson's account by pointing out the difference in writing styles in the inscription. I was terrified. He was also trying to pull my shirt off.

The press conference with Nelson and Allred comes after Nelson told ABC News on Friday that she made notes underneath Moore's original entry. Allred explained, "Well, uh, all I can say is we want it done in a professional setting to the extent possible, that's the only setting in which people can testify under oath". I pray that he's changed. Allred said those notes were added later by Nelson "to remind herself of who Roy Moore was and where and when Mr. Moore signed her yearbook".

Jauregui repeated his call for Allred to release the yearbook so it could be examined by an independent analsyst. Moore was an assistant district attorney in Etowah County at the time, so it was assumed that Moore added that designation after his name. As proof she knew Moore at the time, last month she produced a yearbook with his alleged signature.

As it turns out, Allred told a press conference in the early afternoon Friday that they stood by their claim that Moore did write in the yearbook, presenting as evidence that a handwriting expert from Georgia obtained by Allred, Arthur T. Anthony, had determined that signature was Moore's, offering a report of his findings to reporters.

Jauregi demanded that the yearbook be given to a neutral third party, with a chain of custody, to allow a handwriting expert to draw some conclusions.
