Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will not meet US Vice President Mike Pence during the latter's visit to the region this month, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki has said.

An estimated 3,000 people marched, burned Israeli flags and stamped on posters of Trump in around 30 protests across the Palestinian territories.

Egypt has repeatedly voiced its concerns over the USA controversial recognition of the holy city of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, stressing the move would negatively affect stability in the Middle East region.

Trump on Wednesday reversed decades of USA policy and by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, imperiled Middle East peace efforts.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reacted to critics in a statement before meetings in Paris on Sunday with French President Emmanuel Macron to be followed by a meeting with European foreign ministers in Brussels.

The policy change will also see the USA embassy to Israel move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a decision that has sparked anger and protests throughout the occupied Palestinian territories, and drawn condemnation from world leaders.

The Egyptian presidential spokesman said Sunday that Sisi and Abbas agreed over the phone to strengthen contacts with different worldwide parties to explain the negative effects of the US decision.

Erdogan also spoke to the presidents of Kazakhstan, Lebanon and Azerbaijan on Saturday, the source said. And on Friday, the Red Crescent said it had attended to nearly 800 injuries in the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.

It said similar and simultaneous protests also were held Sunday in at least 10 provincial capitals and cities across Indonesia.

The IDF said that riots on Saturday took place in approximately 20 locations across the Palestinian territories, during which protesters burned tyres and threw firebombs and rocks at Israeli troops.

Trump's move has sparked protests in Muslim and Arab countries for four days.

On Wednesday, he called an urgent meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Turkey next week.
