Disgraced Senator Al Franken's accuser target of "vile and partisan personal attacks"

"Some of the allegations against me are simply not true", he said during his address to the U.S. Senate.

Al Franken's Thursday resignation found critics in some Democrats who weren't eager to surrender one of their more personable elected officials and, unsurprisingly, Rosie O'Donnell was one of the voices crying foul.

Dupuy told CNN's Alisyn Camerota that Franken's speech and the venue where he delivered it were inappropriate. "It's like I was no longer a person, only ornamental".

"All our almost identical experiences show that this was not a onetime failure of judgment on Senator Franken's part, it was a clear pattern of behavior. I want to thank their male colleagues who have joined them", she said.

Though the writing appeared to be on the wall, Franken's departure was not certain.

The allegations against Franken began less than three weeks ago.

A fifth woman comes forward with an allegation.

Franken returns to work and says he knows he "let a lot of people down".

Stephanie Kemplin, who alleges that Franken groped her during his USO tour to Kuwait in 2003 while she was serving in the Army, said his words rang hollow. "It said, 'You don't matter-and I do.' He wanted to cop a feel and he demonstrated he didn't need my permission".

"It wasn't an apology, it was very defiant", she said.

Leeann Tweeden posted this photo online that she says was taken while she was asleep on a flight back from a 2006 USO trip. Either way, he has never offered the women who came forward the first thing they deserve: a clear explanation of what, if anything, he believes he did wrong and what, if anything, he is committed to changing. If you are a woman who felt violated by Al Franken, you think that's somehow reassuring to you, that makes it better?

"That's not irony", she said.

Watch his resignation announcement below, via PBS News Hour. The woman, who wasn't identified, says that after her boss left and she was collecting her belongings, Franken tried to kiss her, saying: "It's my right as an entertainer". Tina Dupuy told the publication that Franken grabbed a handful of flesh around her waist and squeezed at least twice.

"I know that I am going to have to be much more conscious when in these circumstances", he went on, "much more careful, much more sensitive, and that this will not happen again".

"Today I am announcing that in the coming weeks I will be resigning as a member of the United States Senate", Franken said in a speech delivered to the Senate floor on Thursday.
