Yankees On Stanton's List Of Preferred Teams

  • Giancarlo Stanton

However, Stanton has a full no-trade clause, so he has final say in any deal. As such, the rumor mill is buzzing with potential free agent signings - namely Japanese star Shohei Ohtani - and trade talks, especially regarding Giancarlo Stanton and now Manny Machado.

The will-he, won't-he story of Giancarlo Stanton's offseason continues to be carried by national baseball reporters.

Giancarlo Stanton is keeping all of his options open, and the reigning National League Most Valuable Player Award victor has not ruled out either the Giants or Cardinals from trade consideration, a source told MLB.com. (The Astros and Cubs remain in the mix, albeit behind the Yankees and Dodgers.) Stanton's refusal to go to St. Louis wasn't a hypothetical one, according to the Cardinals. He would certainly complicate Hal Steinbrenner's quest to keep the Yanks under the luxury tax for 2018, but Stanton could be the kind of player to make it worth going over the limit. Do they get desperate enough to eat a significant portion of his contract, to the point where the Dodgers - or even the Yankees - can't say no?

Neither of those teams is close to a deal as of Friday. They're trying to get rid of this salary and acquire top prospects at the same time.

Meanwhile, it's hard to imagine there's another team out there willing to take on the majority of Ellsbury's contract either, as hard as Cashman will be looking this winter. A lineup that includes Judge, Stanton and Gary Sanchez would be the most formidable in all of baseball.

Bottom line, Yankee people and other execs believe that Stanton eventually will force his way to Los Angeles, which seems to be his preferred destination.

It's been long rumored that Stanton, who is from Southern California, would like to be on the Dodgers (the rest of the NL definitely doesn't want that to happen).

Meanwhile the Yankees, tempted as they may be, are convinced they'll get there without adding such a weapon.
