This particular discussion revolves around a pivotal meeting, that is where representatives of the Russian government who were portrayed as providing dirt on Hillary Clinton as part of the Russian government effort to help Donald Trump to the campaign, and therefore is a central issue that we need to fully investigate.

According to Trump Jr., President Trump was not alerted of the meeting between Trump campaign officials and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya when it happened, but the two had a conversation regarding the events after the meeting went public.

Trump Jr. told the committee that he had not informed his father about his meeting with the Russian lawyer at the time it took place.

It is also very convenient for Trump Jr. because the questions surrounding who knew what and when about the June 9 meeting are a central part of the investigation into collusion between the campaign and Russian Federation.

But according to CNN, the Veselnitskaya meeting, and how the White House tried to explain it away as a discussion about U.S. adoption of Russian orphans, was one focus of the questioning. When asked about a conversation he had with President Donald Trump about the meeting this past summer, Trump Jr. claimed that, because a lawyer was present during their phone call, he did not have to divulge the details.

The conversations that Trump Jr. may have had with his father after the June 2016 meeting are of interest to investigators primarily due to the fact that the younger Trump went into this meeting on the presumption that the Russian lawyer he would be meeting with had connections to the Russian government and that the objective of the meeting was to discuss potentially damaging information about Hillary Clinton. The sources said Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had sat for 11 hours when she was questioned by Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., as part of the Benghazi investigation and they were nowhere near that point.

"I don't believe you can shield communications between individuals merely by having an attorney present That's not the objective of attorney-client privilege". During that meeting, the lawyer in question recently stated that Trump Jr. offered a quid pro quo in exchange for damaging information about Clinton. Since both Trumps are the subjects of an investigation, any advice from one could implicate the other. "That's not the objective of attorney-client privilege".

Some of Trump's fellow Republicans criticized Mueller, the FBI and the Department of Justice at a news conference on Wednesday, ahead of congressional testimony on Thursday by the director of the FBI, Christopher Wray.

Just days after the meeting, Goldstone apparently forwarded a message to Kaveladze referencing a report about Russia's breach of the Democratic National Committee.

Other lawmakers, Republicans as well as Democrats, say the goal of their investigation is to guarantee the integrity of US elections, not to target Trump and his associates.
