  • Tiger Woods confident of bright future after impressive return at Hero World Challenge

Woods shot a 76 in the final round past year, which left a bitter taste even after a showing in which he led the field in birdies.

"I really didn't feel like I was that far off, that's the insane part", said Woods, who is playing for the first time in 10 months following a fourth back surgery.

Woods was 10 strokes back but he had plenty of smiles as he answered the question of how he would do in his first tournament in almost 10 months following spinal fusion surgery.

"Anything I did right ended up in a bad spot, then everything I did wrong, it was really bad", Woods told NBC television. "We took care of that and kept it rolling". "When you're out for this duration of time, it's very different to be out here like this and try to post a number".

"I really didn't feel like I was that far off, that's the insane part", he said. "I hit some really good shots out there (and am ready for) a bright future. and no pain".

"I haven't had a chance yet to see Tiger play and can only go by the results".

Jordan Spieth (72) and England's Justin Rose (71) were tied for second at nine-under 207, one stroke ahead of Italy's Francesco Molinari (71). He birdied eight of nine holes on the front and nine of his first 11 to run away with the tournament at Albany Golf Club.

He reeled off three more birdies after a double bogey at 10, but dropped another shot at 17 following an errant tee shot and ended a promising return in disappointing fashion with a three-putt bogey at the last.

"I hit the most attractive three wood that went 300 yards in the wind".

"It's ridiculous", he said.

The day after a bogey-filled front nine, Woods showed flashes of his old self with three birdies and an eagle to make the turn at five-under 31.
