Stanton has been on losing Marlins teams in all eight of his major league seasons.

The Miami Marlins have agreed to the general framework of a trade involving star Giancarlo Stanton to the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

As Morosi has noted, Stanton carries the weight of a full no-trade clause as part of his 13-year, $325 million contract, which was inked with the Marlins in 2014.

Stanton's people also have received approval for a meeting with the Cardinals, sources told ESPN, although when the meeting will take place is unclear. He is rumored to prefer a deal to his hometown Dodgers, although Los Angeles is also under payroll constraints and may not match up in a potential trade. Per MLBPipeline.com, those are the Giants' second-, third- and fourth-rated prospects, respectively.

The Marlins are reportedly only willing to pick up $45 million of Stanton's contract to make the deal work.

Stanton has been aware of the possibility of a trade for months. But the Dodgers have luxury-tax issues and have not seriously pursued Stanton - at least not yet.

Yet Stanton might be waiting for a resolution with the Dodgers before deciding between the Giants and Cardinals.

The Marlins, under the direction of CEO Derek Jeter, are looking to unload Stanton and the $295 million owed to him over the next decade - among other players - as the new ownership group reshapes the roster and attempts to get the organization's finances in order.
