Halftime Report: Buccaneers vs. Falcons

27 November, 2017, 01:37 | Author: Rachael Silva
  • Julio Jones reminds us all he's not human

Facing a third-and-1 from their own 49-yard line, the Falcons put Sanu in the quarterback spot, and the wide receiver delivered, tossing an absolutely flawless pass to fellow wideout Julio Jones for a 51-yard touchdown.

The first Jones touchdown came on a trick play, with receiver Mohamed Sanu throwing for a 51-yard touchdown and a 10-3 lead in the second quarter. But Keanu Neal battled down Fitzpatrick's pass on fourth-and-1 at the Atlanta 18 with just over seven minutes remaining, and the Falcons drove for a clinching touchdown on Tevin Coleman's 14-yard run with just under two minutes to go. In fact, the 28-year-old has completed all six of his career pass attempts in the National Football League, three of which have resulted in scores.

At halftime, the Falcons had a 20-6 lead and Jones had six receptions for 138 yards.

Jones had a total of eight explosive plays (catches of 20-plus or runs of 15-plus yards). He entered the game needing 107 receiving yards to break the league record for the most in the first 90 games of a career.

Coleman, filling in for again for injured Devonta Freeman, rushed for 97 yards and two TDs.

Was it flawless? No. Tampa turned a 27-6 deficit midway through the third into a 27-20 game less than 15 minutes later, perhaps briefly conjuring some bad memories for Falcons fans. Neither Ryan nor Ryan had an interception. DT Clinton McDonald (back), S T.J. Ward (concussion) and CB Josh Robinson (hamstring) were hurt in the third quarter.

The Buccaneers defense is going to have nightmares about Jones until they face the Falcons again on December 18. The Falcons host Minnesota next Sunday in their only remaining game not against an NFC South opponent.
